Clutch components have to bear a lot of pressure, that is why they are worn very quickly. In general, there isn’t a specific time at which the clutch must be replaced. The service life of clutch is depending upon driver’s driving style. Currently, clutch sold on the market can work without serious issues within 100km, but after 100km, some particular symptoms may appear.
Regular inspection and service can ensure clutch working in a relatively better way. In the meanwhile, the way driver uses the clutch is important as well. If driver always drives the vehicle aggressively, or uses the clutch excessively, the cultch may be worn much quickly. As a result, vehicle owner needs to replace the clutch since clutch may not work.
The following symptoms which are obvious can tell you that maybe you should replace your clutch.
1, The clutch pedal is soft when driver presses it
Under normal circumstance, when pressed, the clutch pedal is relatively harder. However, if clutch has issues, it would be extremely soft.
2, Slippage
When driving uphill, slippage is more likely to take place. In this circumstance, if the pedal is depressed but clutch is not engaged, the car rev’s up but speed doesn’t change. This phenomenon means the clutch has slippage. Slippage takes place since friction material attached to the drive disk is worn. As the aim of friction material is gripping the plate, it wears out very fast. In such a situation, the clutch cannot deliver engine torque to gearbox and wheels, which will lead to more and more slippage.
3, More effort is needed when shifting gear
If gearbox is in good condition, it would be very easy and smooth to change gear. By stark contrast, if issues exist, more effort would be needed to shift gear.
4, Sticky
If the clutch pedal is depressed but the clutch is not released, there remain issues, since the shaft carries on rotating which prevent gear from changing.
5, Noise
If there exists metallic noise when changing gears, issues may take place in the gearbox.
6, pedal is still on the floor
Under normal circumstance, after changing gear, the clutch should return to its original position. However, if this doesn’t take place and the clutch pedal is still on the floor, there should be serious issues in the clutch.
7, Hard press
If pressing the clutch pedal and feeling that it is very tough, driver has to make a great effort to press it. This indicates problems.
But why almost all of mechanics would recommend car owners to purchase clutch kits when replacing.
Honestly speaking, if you would like to replace clutch components, nobody will stop you. This method is inappropriate but relatively cheaper. Replacing clutch components, you will not only save, but considerably improve the grip features. Here is the reason.
As we all know, the clutch is a system, which means every component is connected. If one component wears, the others may wear very soon as well.
That is the reason why the whole set is always recommended. In such a circumstance, the entire clutch system can be replaced easily and all of new components of it can work simultaneously in a correct way.
In addition, mechanic will offer flywheel in the meantime. Flywheel is not a component of the clutch system, but connected with it. Flywheel is always highly recommended to be replaced at the same time.
